Means of transport for wine
- Wine has to be stabilized in the winery according to its kind
- Bottles need to be transported upwards to avoid contamination but the horizontal position is still possible for prestigious wines

- Bottles need to be transported in watertight containers (multi-layered cardboard or expanded polyester) or in wood boxes (that may affect the weight, though)
- Wine bottles need to be labelled as “Alcohol Beverage” in the AirwayBill, Delivery document and all the other docs accompanying the good itself
- Shipping can be happen via land, sea or air
Future perspectives
- Wine is not a good that needs to be shipped in a controlled-temperature environment, as it is not part of the listed items in the legislation. For this reason, wine is transported at room temperature and this could potentially lead to chemical- physical and biological alterations
- After a recent meeting at Vinitaly 2019, the transport of wine need to be considered “not only as a mean of shipment but as a tool that is part of the agri-food production” as stated by the President of Cia (Italian Confederation of Farmers) “and for this reason, it can emphasize or harm the product itself”. The President of Oita, the Interdisciplinary Observatory of Food Transport, has claimed there is a “legislative gap” on the qualitative aspects concerning the transport of oil and wine
- By the end of 2019, a specific table will be working on a protocol aimed at forcing a transportation focused to maintain the original characteristics of the product
