DEFINITION
Bioclimatic design deals with biological and climatic aspects such as thermal comfort and passive design strategies. In the specific case of wineries, these are aimed at ensuring all the productive and processing aspects needed in the case of wine.
PRINCIPLES OF BIOCLIMATIC DESIGN
Bioclimatic design is aimed at buildings being in harmony with the natural surroundings and local climate. There is a strong attention to such factors in the world, along with ecological attention. They are built keeping in mind the following targets:
- Saving up conventional (fuel-based) energy
- Protecting the environment by using less of such fuel-based energy so that air pollution and waste can be reduced
- Improving indoor living conditions since thermal comfort and air quality of bioclimatic buildings are ensuring a healthier living environment
BIOCLIMATIC BUILDINGS
Bioclimatic buildings serve as natural collectors in winter time since their largest face is supposed to be oriented southward. In addition, the size of the doors and windows are depended on the orientation of the building.
They also act as heat traps since they offer protection against cold winds and they provide insulation indoors/outdoors as well as providing heat storage.
Bioclimatic buildings serve as natural cooling traps because they radiate heat during the night.
