The food scares that consumers experienced or even have heard of in Europe or worldwide have triggered changes in purchasing and consumption behavior (Fontes, Giraud-Héraud & Pinto, 2015), pressing for Quality Assurance and the development of Quality Assurance and Certification Schemes to recover or maintain consumers’ trust. Quality Assurance and Certification Schemes specifically for agricultural products and foodstuffs marketed in the EU-27 exceed 440 in number (European Commission, 2016, Kamenidou et al. 2018).
